I live in St. Louis now. I grew up here, attended St. Joseph’s Academy and the following fall entered the convent. I earned a Bachelor’s degree at Fontbonne University, then taught seventh grade in Kansas City and high school English in Atlanta, Chicago and St. Louis.
After I left the convent, I returned to Atlanta where I went to Georgia State University and received a Master of Visual Arts in art education. I taught art in junior and senior high schools and at a community college. I also taught dyslexic students in an Atlanta elementary school.
Themes I love: freedom, mercy, joy and absurdity. Having grown up Catholic with my mother’s only sister a nun and my own fears and perfection leanings, I entered the convent at 18. Exciting books, new Scripture translations and wonderful students in an Atlanta Catholic co-ed high school were the main influences that set me free. I’m still reading. I’m still practicing those four themes. The lovely story of The Prodigal Son feels like my own story.
Now having retired and moved home, I combine my love of writing with my love of art by designing greeting cards, children’s books and books of my poems. I also write and perform poems and teach right-brain drawing. In all these I share what I’ve learned about freedom, mercy, joy and absurdity. Oh, my main book for inspiration and comfort now is A Course in Miracles. I love it.
