Happy New Year, Dear Friends!
I wish each of you so much joy and gratitude in the coming year!
My main intention for 2016 is to practice, practice being present with joy and gratitude.
Here are a two of my most recent poems. They surprised me with their nonsense. Now I hope for more playful silly poems. And this hope has me talking to myself in fun ways as I see if some nutty notion has poem potential.
Teddy Bear Poem
You know that utterly blank look your teddy bear gives you
when you ask a reasonable, even desperate, question?
This morning I asked my bear which sweater looked better
and I got that stare. I may as well have asked the chair.
Tonight when he wants to sleep with me, we’ll see who stares.

The Found Sock
“Here you are,” I say to my black cotton sock.
“So I have finally found you in my underwear drawer.
I almost despaired and threw out your mate.
She’ll be glad to see you.
What have you been doing all this time with my black underwear?”
The sock is speechless in my hand.
I open the sock drawer, find his mate and wrap them around each other.
I am sure I hear his mate whisper, “I’d like to know, too
what you’ve been doing in Mary’s underwear drawer.”
As I close the drawer, I hear all my socks giggling.
