Currently I lead 8-session classes in Right-side Drawing using Betty Edwards’ wonderful book, Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain. The course is described: “Learn to access and use the right side of your brain–the more creative, less judgmental, clearer-seeing side. You’ll make the mental shift to a different mode of information processing so that drawing becomes pleasurable, allows you to lose track of time, frees you from anxiety and heightens your accurate perception.”
I also love to lead a two-hour class called Fast Dancing for Shy Feet. It begins with the group sitting still in a circle as each person tells his/her relationship to fast-dancing. Then we listen to a fast song like “Rock Around the Clock,” not moving at all. As another song plays, we listen and move one hand, keeping time with the music. Slowly we add more movements to our listening till we are dancing on the walls. Or whatever.
A third class I have enjoyed facilitating is Finding Grandmama God. Using my book of the same title, participants and I share our journeys of loving ourselves more with conversation, inspiration, art and poetry. (Giving myself a kind inner voice, whose self and source I call “Grandmama God” was my main method of healing.)
